Discovering new places to have a coffee/drink/sandwich always makes us very happy. Especially when, apart from serving quality food and drinks, the place looks the part. So when during our last visit to Monte Palace Tropical Garden we discovered the nice looking Greenhouse Coffee Roaster, this was a very pleasant surprise!

Greenhouse Coffee Roaster is a coffee shop in a greenhouse. A very fun and suiting location for a coffee shop in a botanical garden, if you ask me. I really, really like the greenhouse theme. The greenhouse itself is very nice looking, and on the outside its walls are lined with herbal plants and corresponding labels. Very cute! In addition to having a refreshing drink, I took my time to explore the greenhouse. I loved the interior area: modern, trendy and colorful design and a relaxing vibe. If you’re worried about the temperature inside, fortunately this coffee shop doesn’t get as hot as a real greenhouse. However, if you prefer a little bit of fresh air: the place has a small terrace looking out over the gardens and Funchal.

On the menu is a selection of coffees like expresso, flat white, filter and cold brew. Additionally, they serve homemade yoghurt with granola or fresh fruit and a large choice in cold pressed juices. Apart from some delicious looking cakes, naturally they also serve the populair (my favorite!) custard tarts pastel de nata. We were here on a very hot day, in the middle of summer. We just walked the steep pathways up to the upper part of the garden and were longing for a nice, cooling refreshment. After much consideration (there were so many great candidates on the menu) we ordered two homemade milkshakes made of fresh fruit and milk. These were exactly what we needed! We would definitely come back another time!
